The burgeoning traffic in the city has increased the noise pollution level as never before. Vehicle owners simply ignore the rules against sounding horns and some have fitted noisy horns to add to the citizen's woes. In most cases, sounding of horns is avoidable, but like in the advanced countries. if one drives carefully, it can be avoided. More silent 'no horn' zones should be created and enforced strictly, especially near schools, residential areas and hospitals. A drive should be launched by the traffic police against loud and musical horns which violate the RTO rules. The time has come to make the city less noisy.
